Perfect small ornamental tree for the perennial garden or corner where some colorful height is needed without taking over the yard. Typically grown as a shrub, it is trained to grow as a tree with pruning. This species is considered the SUN LOVING hydrangea, as it will take quite a bit more sun than its larger leafed cousins. This plant is incredibly cold tolerant and will not die back in the winter like some of the other species of Hydrangea. Large, cone-shaped blooms form on the ends of the branches in summer when it seems everything else is done blooming. The blooms start white (or in some varieties they are more lime green color) that naturally change to pink as the bloom matures. Will also retain the flower into winter, so there is some late season interest.
