Careers at Grass Pad

Serving the Environment of Mankind by growing relationships with our Staff, Customers and Suppliers.

Green Grass, Green Plants and a Green Lifestyle

At the Grass Pad, we love grass – the smell of it, the feel of it, the way it looks after a nice mow. We just can’t get enough. We like to say, “We have dirt on our shoes and grass on our minds.” And that plays into our mentality – there is no job too big or too small for a Grass Pad employee. We love to help out with every part of the business. Is there sod to load for a customer? We’ll do it. A plant that needs watering? Consider it watered. We’re so excited about everything lawn and garden that we just can’t help ourselves. We are proud stewards of the environment and encourage an outdoor lifestyle.

We’re The Experts

Being a reliable expert for our customers is at the top of our priority list. We want people to come in and get exactly what they need, even if that’s just an answer to a simple question. We won’t give customers products they don’t need, and we don’t end every conversation with a sale. We want our customers to succeed at what they do and to be happy doing it.

We Believe in Our Product

We spend a lot of time ensuring that our products uphold the highest standards and we won’t sell new products until we’ve test them ourselves. We’ve spent years cultivating relationships in the industry to ensure our grass seed is the highest quality, because quality is not something we take lightly. Our sod farms have used our products for decades, giving us the experience we need to make customers successful. Our brand promise is to give the customer the highest quality product and the best advice possible.

Our History

The first Kansas City Grass Pad opened as a sod farm on 700 acres in Farley, Missouri. No telephone, no running water, just two light bulbs, one outdoor privy, and an old dairy barn. People drove for miles to find a gravel road, the old barn, and the 700 acres of lush green sod. Uncle had the program to grow the finest sod: “Imitate nature! Plant the finest seed. Feed it. Prevent crabgrass and weeds.” Why that’s so simple, it was Idiot Proof.   Customers wanted to know his secret. How did Uncle keep his sod so lush and green? They said, “Tell us the secret so we can make our lawns lush, thick and green like your sod farm.” “Uncle, write down that idiot proof program. Put it on a yellow sheet so it won’t get lost.” Now people knew Uncle’s secret. They drove for miles down a gravel road to buy the finest Grass Pad seed and Uncle’s Idiot Proof Lawn Care Program. Over the years, Grass Pad has grown to five locations surrounding Kansas City metro area and our original Loveland Lawns Grass Pad location in Omaha Nebraska. The new mantra in the garden center business is about going upscale to high profit gift shops and wine coolers, at Grass Pad it’s all about dirt on our shoes and grass on our mind.
