No! Prevent will kill new grass seed. If you want to fertilize and apply new grass seed, grab a bag of Golf Course Starter or Renovator instead.

Each dose of Prevent lasts in the soil for 8-10 weeks, so you’ll need to wait at least that long before you seed.
If you are interested in seeding during the spring season, check out Uncle’s Seed Safe Lawn Program, which is specifically designed to seed in the spring.
Prevent is applied twice in the spring, once in mid-March and once in mid-May. This two-application approach works better than a one-time application because of the heavy spring and summer rains in our area.
Throw down the second round! Crabgrass sprouts and grows all summer, so any Prevent is better than none.
We normally target May for the second round of Prevent since moisture is still abundant and we haven’t hit the summer heat waves. However, if the weather stays cool and you’re able to water, the window for Step 3 Prevent can last until mid-June. Since there is a full dose of starter fertilizer in Prevent, you’ll want to keep and eye on the weather and water the farther into June you get.
